Welcome to the landing page of this course titled Using Progress Monitoring to Establish an Evidence Base for Practice in Psychotherapy.

This short one and a half hour course is given by Dr. Marilyn Fitzpatrick, psychologist and professor emerita at McGill University. It covers everything you need to know about progress tracking and outcome monitoring in psychotherapy. If you practice psychotherapy, you cannot afford not to know about the value of monitoring your client or patient's progress over the course of treatment!

With this course, you will learn how to assess your client or patient's progress in psychotherapy, and how to predict when your client or patient is heading toward recovery or, instead, is heading toward treatment failure, before it even happens. Ultimately, this course will help you improve the outcome of the therapies you deliver!

More specifically, in this course, Prof. Fitzpatrick discusses:

  • What is evidence based practice in psychotherapy?
  • Why are therapists not as effective as they could be?
  • What is therapist attribution bias in therapy, and why does it matter?
  • What is progress tracking and outcome monitoring?
  • Why is progress tracking important?
  • What are the effects of progress tracking on treatment outcomes?
  • How to implement progress tracking and outcome monitoring in practice?
  • What are the main measures and tools that can be used to track a client's progress (the Basis 24, the BHM-20, the CORE, the OQ-45, the PCOMS, the TOP, and POLARIS), and just what do they assess?
  • What does progress tracking look like in practice ?: a case study.

The course is presented as a PowerPoint with video and lasts 1.5 hours.
